The official begining of work of the Montenegrin Maritime Law Association
On December 1st, 2023, we witnessed a historic moment for Montenegro as a maritime country. In particular, the first assembly of the Montenegrin Maritime Law Association ("MMLA") was held in Podgorica, announcing the official beginning of work of the MMLA and the association of natural persons and legal entities in Montenegro sharing a common goal - the study, promotion and encouraging the development of maritime law.
At the session, the Annual Work Plan for 2024 was adopted and the Executive Committee members of the Association were elected, including our managing partner Petar Djurović on behalf of Abaco Ltd.
MMLA was founded as a professional and non-profit association of its members, with the aim to establish cooperation with governmental and judicial institutions in making, adopting and implementing maritime law regulations and exchanging and spreading knowledge on this fascinating field of maritime law.
One of the main goals of the MMLA for 2024 is admission to the Comité Maritime International (“CMI”) together with participation in the regional association of Adriatic maritime states (Croatia, Slovenia and Italy) and their joint activities.
We are proud that Montenegro finally got its own national association for maritime law, which, like other associations of maritime countries in the world, will actively participate in the dissemination of knowledge in the field of maritime law and the creation of maritime policy.
As one of the three founding members of MMLA and the host of this ceremonial session, Abaco will continue to actively participate in MMLA’s work and provide all possible support in terms of commitment to the MMLA’s goals and sharing knowledge on maritime law.
