The United Nations Convention on the International Effects of Judicial Sales of Ships (Beijing Convention on the Judicial Sale of Ships) officially entered into force on 17 February 2026, marking a significant advancement for legal certainty and transparency in global maritime trade.
The Convention strengthens the cross border recognition of judicial sales of ships, offering enhanced protection to good faith purchasers and contributing to a more predictable and stable international shipping market.
Montenegro now has an important opportunity to consider accession to the Convention, aligning its legal framework with modern international maritime standards and reinforcing its position as a responsible and forward looking maritime jurisdiction.
